LUDOWICI, Ga. (WTOC) – People living in Long County say they’re frustrated with not receiving their mail.
Some say it could be more than a week until they see a delivery truck.
“2:00, 4:00, 6:00 p.m. and there will be no mail,” said Frank Colvin who’s lived in the county for about seven years.
He says lately, it’s been rare that he’ll see a mail delivery truck.
“It’s been 10 days since we got our mail.”
He says he finally received a stack yesterday with bills and medical information. And that he’s not alone.
“Five days, seven days, and then my neighbors were complaining about it. They haven’t gotten their mail,” he said.
Colvin was told that deliveries would no long come from the United States Post Office in Ludowici, but from Hinesville.
That’s a completely different county.
He has to now drive to pick up his mail if it doesn’t come.
WTOC’s reporter was told the same thing from people stopping by the office today.
We asked a worker about the issue, he did not comment.
“A lot of people don’t have the time like I do to go to the post office to get their mail. They get out of work and the mail is closed,” Colvin said.
He showed us tracking information for mail he was expecting. He waited on it for days and never received it. His next step about the county-wide issue was turning to Georgia U.S. Representative Buddy Carter’s office for help.
It took him a while to get a response.
“Somebody needs to step up on the federal level, that’s federal stuff,” Colvin said.
We reached out to Carter says he’s received a number of calls about the issues in Long County.
“I’ve even had some calls that indicate that they’re so late in getting their mail that it makes their payments behind on their bills,” Carter said.
He says it’s a state-wide issue that he’s working to resolve.
His message right now for the people here is to contact his office.
“I would encourage anyone who’s having problems with the mail service in Long County or anywhere throughout the district, please call our office. 9123520101.”
He says in the past, he’s gone as far as calling the regional office and postmaster general in D.C.
