Our Council has decided to sell our Summer Camp, Camp Trexler.

Hello r/BSA, as stated in the title, our council, Minsi Trails, has decided to sell Camp Trexler, in order to cover their share of the recent BSA lawsuit.

Camp Trexler is a camp located in eastern PA near Jim Thorpe, PA. Many within the council were extremely surprised by this decision because our Camp is one of the most successful programs our council offers and has been increasing in popularity over the past couple of years.

Myself and many others are attempting to convince the council to reverse their decision and would appreciate any and all support in doing so. This camp has had an immense impact on my life as well as many other Scouts and Scouters and it would be a great shame to see such an important piece of Scouting history shut down and sold.

Also if you have any advice or suggestions on how we could go about getting this decision overturned I would greatly appreciate it. To be clear we are not looking for donations or fundraising at this time.

Edit: First off I would like to thank the amount of attention this post is getting, but I want to clear up some info. We understand that this is mostly a financial decision and that the debt from the lawsuits is a very large sum of money. We also understand that membership is down within BSA as a whole.

We have information that this decision may have not been made in good faith with quotes but I was asked by the moderators not to link the website where we have compiled this information. I don’t want to put any more info on her that could be considered a violation of the rules. If you would like to see the website feel free to DM me. My intention with this post however is not to spread negative words in regard to our council but instead to look for people who have had experience at Trexler that may be willing to reach out to Minsi Trails in order to show their opposition to the sale.

Edit 2: u/jpgarvey linked the website I was referring to in my first edit. Although I mistyped when I said “we” compiled it, but I’m leaving it up for transparency. The website was created by a group of leaders who have no direct affiliation with Camp Trexler or the staff. Nor am I the OP affiliated with them.

Edit 3: I’m stepping away for a bit, but I’ll try to keep responding as much as possible when I can. Also, my replies may be slow because the moderators need to review each reply because of how new my account is. Apologies.
