As the youngest-ever President of the Tarrant County Optometric Society and a former Board Member of the Texas Optometric Association, Dr. Chu has built a legacy rooted in community, clinical excellence, and patient-first service.
Education & Early Career
A proud native Texan, Dr. Chu graduated from Fort Worth Country Day School in 1993 before earning a Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience from Vanderbilt University in 1997. He continued his family’s legacy by becoming the second generation to receive a doctoral degree from the University of Houston College of Optometry, where he also earned his Optometric Glaucoma Specialist certification through the Texas State Board of Optometry.
During his clinical training, Dr. Chu completed internships at Lackland Air Force Base and Randolph Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, gaining firsthand experience in advanced medical eye care settings.

Academic Contributions & Research
Before entering clinical practice, Dr. Chu followed in his mother’s footsteps with an early passion for eye research. At Vanderbilt University’s Vision Research Center, he studied neural plasticity and retinal regeneration in goldfish. He later received a prestigious National Eye Institute (NEI) Training Grant to research cell morphology in regenerating salamander retina—earning published recognition for his findings.
Today, Dr. Chu remains active in academia and clinical research. He serves as a clinical educator for third-year medical residents from John Peter Smith Hospital, where EYEWORKS participates in the ENT rotation. He is also a Principal Investigator in numerous FDA clinical trials, working on next-generation contact lens biomaterials and revolutionary pharmaceutical treatments for ocular conditions.
He was recently featured in Optometric Management, a leading journal in the field of optometry, further highlighting his ongoing impact on the future of eye care.
